The year, the Department of Psychology hosted CEU Makati’s 2nd Sportsfest last January 18-25, 2018 with the theme, “Upholding Unity and Amity through Culture and Sports: The ESCOLARian Way.” The activity aimed to build camaraderie and rapport within the CEU Makati community, teach the value of teamwork, sportsmanship and instill discipline among students. The CEU Makati Sportsfest was participated by students from different departments.
The opening ceremonies was held at the Makati Coliseum last January 18, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. -12:00 n.n. Ms. Miraquel Roxas from Psychology Department, Ms. Lara Maven Suguitan from Dentistry Department, Mr. Richmond Babasa from HRM Department, and Mr. Ivan Perry Mercado, Faculty member and the Head of the Registrar’s Office were the hosts of the event.
The ceremony started with the parade of five different teams namely – Green Python, (Medical Technology, Nursing and Pharmacy), Red Bulls (Business Administration and Tourism Management), White Panda (Hotel and Restaurant Management and Computer Sciences and Information Technology), Yellow Phoenix (Senior High School), Blue Dragons (Dentistry and Psy-chology).
The opening remarks was given by Vice President and Dean of Studies of CEU Makati, Dr. Olivia M. Limuaco followed by the inspirational message of the Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Carlito B. Olaer. The Ceremonial Torch Lighting was headed by the AVP for Business Affairs, Mr. Jericho P. Orlina which was assisted by the captains of Women’s and Men’s Bas-ketball and Volleyball Team: Ms. Jaslyn Caliso, Mr. Aseel Ba-hashwan, Ms. Irishshanne Louisse Valdez, and Mr. Zoren Suel-lo. The MVP for Men’s Volleyball Team Sportsfest 2017, Mr. Mark Vincent Reyes, led the Oath of Sportsmanship.
It was also that day that the Dance Competition was held which was won by Maskara Festival (Pharmacy Department) who ranked first place, Pintados Festival (Medical Technology Department) who ranked second place, and Pandagguhan Festival (Psychology Department) who ranked third place. The Selected Students from Psychology Depart-ment and Ms. Andrea Yap-Diangco, President of Dra-matic Guild, also presented production numbers.
The major events for this school year’s Sportsfest were the Basketball Games (for Boys) and Volleyball Games (for Girls). Red Bulls, White Panda, and Blue Dragons won the Champion, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place respectively for the Basketball event and Yellow Phoenix, Green Pythons, and Red Bull won the Champion, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place respectively for the Volleyball Event.
The closing ceremonies took place at Student Activity Center, Gil Puyat Campus last January 25, 2018, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 n.n. Dr. Maria Corazon L. Andoy, Head of Student Af-fairs Office, gave her inspirational message to the winners of the said event. It was also that day where it was announced the Mythical Six, Mythical Five and Most Valuable Players for the Volleyball and Basketball. The winners for this event were given certificates and medals of recognition. The over-all champion for this school year’s sportsfest is the Red Bull (Department of Business Administration and Department of Tourism), followed by Yellow Phoenix (Senior High School) who ranked 2nd place, and the Blue Dragons (Department of Psychology and Dentistry) who ranked 3rd place.
Indeed, the said event was a success, building friendly relations among Escolarians as well as unifying the community through culture and sports.
